The Cloverdale High School JV baseball team came a step closer to locking up the NCL-1 title last week, notching lopsided wins over Fort Bragg (11-3) and St. Helena (11-1).
The victories ran the Eagle’s league mark to 11-1 and pushed their season record to an outstanding 17-1.
Cloverdale sent pitcher Michael McDermott to the hill in the May 6 trip to Fort Bragg, tossing first four-plus innings of two-hit ball, yielding just one run while fanning eight in a sparkling effort.
Pacing the Cloverdale hitting corps were Jared Hibbeln (1 for 4, 2B, 2 RBIs), Mason Meier (2 for 5, 2B, 1 RBI), Chris Harms (4 for 4, 2 RBIs), Pat Ojeda (1 for 3, 2 RBIs), Travis Kitowski (1 for 3, 2 RBIs), Angel Vega (3 for 4, 2B, Michael McDermott (1 for 4, 2 RBIs), and Mason Kostoff (1 for 3).
The Eagles traveled to St. Helena in Friday’s meeting with the Saints, as starter Chris Harms turned in a dominant effort to key an 11-1 victory.
Harms fired five innings, allowing just one hit and one run while striking out six to earn the win. Top hitters were Kostoff (1 for 2, 2 RBIs), McDermott (1 for 2), Kitowski (2 for 3, RBI), Harms (2 for 3, 2 RBIs), and Meier (2 for 4, 2B, RBI), and Hibbeln (2 for 4, RBI).
