Joyce Duffield Morrow of Sebastopol, passed away Feb. 5 at
Sutter Hospital in Santa Rosa at the age of 72. Joyce was born in
Sacramento as the only child of Laurence and Josephine Duffield.
She attended Analy High School in Sebastopol, entered University of
California, Berkeley at the age of 16 and graduated with a Bachelor
of Arts in Music. While attending Berkeley, she met and married
Alan D. Morrow, a union that was to last nearly 45 years until
Alan’s death in 1999. Together they traveled the world during
Alan’s 25-year military career and lived in Sebastopol upon his
retirement. Joyce was an active member in her community. She was a
member of Chapter MH, P.E.O Sisterhood of Sebastopol and held
multiple official positions within the chapter throughout her
membership. She was also a member of the American Guild of
Organists for 50 years and made a career out of her love of music.
She was an accomplished writer, director and composer of music, as
well as a devoted teacher instructing many talented students around
the world in voice, piano and organ. In addition to private
lessons, Joyce always found a job playing organ or piano in local
churches regardless of the denomination. She was a member of the
Sebastopol Community Church and served as its organist for nearly
30 years. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Alan D.
Morrow. She is survived by two daughters, Louise Kulczewski of
Windsor, and Lydia Morrow of Santa Rosa, as well as 6 grandchildren
and 1 great-grandchild. A memorial service was held on Feb. 19 at
at the Community Church, 1000 Gravenstein Highway North,
Sebastopol. Donations in her memory may be sent to the Music
Memorial Fund of the Community Church in Sebastopol.
