Josephine L. Hines, 88, passed away June 2, 2007 in her sleep of
natural causes in Sebastopol.
Hines was born in Beaverlodge, Alberta Canada on June 24, 1918,
the youngest of six children.
She and her late husband, Dick, moved to Guerneville in 1945
where they owned and operated Pat’s Restaurant and Bar for 25
years. They sold the business to their son Richard, and moved to
Dorrington, Calif. where they operated the food and bar facilities
at Mount Reba Ski Resort (a.k.a. Bear Valley) until their
retirement in the early 1980s. They moved to Brookings, Ore. to
spend their retirement fishing on the Smith and Chetco Rivers.
Coming full circle after her husband’s passing in 2005, Hines moved
back to Sonoma County to be close to family.
Hines was an avid fisherwoman, crafter, cook, gardener, former
Mother Advisor of Rainbow Girls, Eastern Star Member and Cub Scout
Leader, among many other hobbies and interests. She was also known
for her never ending hospitality and caring for others.
She was preceded in death by her husband and companion of 64
years, Dick Hines. She is survived by daughters Sally (Marvin)
Hobbs of Alturas, Calif.; Susan (Raleigh) Yasinitsky of Rohnert
Park; and son Richard (Donna) Hines of Guerneville; four
grandchildren and two great-grandsons. A celebration of life for
Hines and her husband will be held later this summer.
