Salmon Creek native John G. Poncia, 86, of Santa Rosa, died on
Feb. 27. He was husband of the late Anita T. Poncia, father of Rose
M. Morgan of Santa Rosa and Peter A. Poncia of Healdsburg,
grandfather of John, Valerie and Melanie Morgan, Andrew, Stacy and
Dina Poncia, father-in-law of Alvin Morgan and Susan Poncia,
brother of Catherine Perry of Sebastopol, Minnie Rose of Santa Rosa
and the late Elvin Poncia, Volante Poncia, Armenio Poncia and Elsie
Bertolini. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He
was born on the Chancellor Ranch in Salmon Creek, son of the late
Pietro and Maria (Mazzucchi) Poncia, early pioneers in Sonoma
County. He worked for many years on the family dairy on Bay Hill
Rd. and after moving to Sebastopol, started working for the
Sebastopol Co-Op Apple Cannery in 1965 until his retirement in
1984. He enjoyed walking, working in his garden, visiting and being
with his family. The family prefers memorials be made to the Hessel
Fire Department, Memorial Hospice or to the American Cancer
Society.
