John G. Poncia passed away in Santa Rosa on Sunday, February 27,
2005. He was the husband of the late Anita T. Poncia; the father of
Rose M. Morgan of Santa Rosa and Peter A. Poncia of Healdsburg; the
grandfather of John, Valerie and Melanie Morgan, Andrew, Stacy and
Dina Poncia; the father-in-law of Alvin Morgan and Susan Poncia;
the brother of Catherine Perry of Sebastopol, Minnie Rose of Santa
Rosa and the late Elvin Poncia, Volante Poncia, Armenio Poncia and
Elsie Bertolini; he is also survived by numerous nieces and
nephews. John was born on the Chancellor Ranch in Salmon Creek, son
of the late Pietro and Maria (Mazzucchi) Poncia, early pioneers in
Sonoma County. He worked for many years on the family dairy on Bay
Hill Road and after moving to Sebastopol, started working for the
Sebastopol Co-Op Apple Cannery in 1965 until his retirement in
1984. He enjoyed walking, working in his garden, visiting and being
with his family, all of which was very important to him. He was 86
years of age. Services were held on Saturday, March 5, 2005 at the
Parent-Sorensen Mortuary in Sebastopol. The family prefers
memorials be made to the Hessel Fire Department, Memorial Hospice
or to the American Cancer Society.
