Joan May (Snow) Fennessey joined her loving husband, Carl, in Heaven on January 15, 2017 at the age of 83. The daughter of Albert and Marcella Snow, she was born in Montreal, Quebec on May 19, 1933. She was the beloved younger sister of Violet Allardice, who currently lives in Kelowna, BC. She was predeceased by her brothers, Don and Alfred Snow. Numerous nieces and nephews across Canada are missing her candid sense of humor and love. The center of Joan’s life was always her close family including her loving daughter, Colleen Hale, and son-in-law James. Her granddaughters, Jocelyn and Erin were the twinkle in her eye and she adored them beyond words. Joan’s heart was complete when Lilly joined the family as her bonus granddaughter. She loved being their Nanny, and she became grandmotherly to many of her caregivers. Her nurses loved her, and she loved them.
Joan left to begin work at an early age and was an Insurance Underwriter in Montreal for many years. To escape the bitter winters, the family moved to Cloverdale in 1976. They purchased an Ice Cream Shoppe on Cloverdale Blvd, and later a Steakhouse north of town, but she most enjoyed the nearly 20 years that they owned The Wheel Café until their retirement in 1996. Those were some of her favorite years, where she made lifelong friends. Joan enjoyed travelling with Carl, especially the annual bus trips with the Knights of Columbus. She loved sports from the t-ball games to the year-round sports that the grandkids played while they were growing up. Hockey was her favorite and she would only miss a professional game on TV for her other favorite hobbies, going to the casino or bingo! She had a life well lived and filled with love.
Please join the family for a graveside Memorial Service to honor Joan’s life on Thursday, February 2 at 2:00 pm at Oak Mound Cemetery under the guidance of Pastors Richard and Melba Rilea. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s or to a charity of your choice.
