James R. Johnson, 76, of Sebastopol, died on Dec.16. Born in
Augusta, Georgia, he was raised by his grandmother and uncle in
Muskegan, Michigan. He later came through California when he
shipped out for the occupation of Japan and met his future wife,
Sally. He is survived by his children, Karen Hill of Colorado, Jim
Johnson, Linda Welter, Peggy Porter and Julie Davis, all of
Sebastopol, and their families, including 10 grandchildren. He is
also survived by his sister, Rose Young of Georgia, He was preceded
in death by his wife, Sally Johnson, his brother, Jay Johnsona and
his granddaughter, Tessie Hill. He enjoyed many sports, played
semi-pro baseball as a young man and pitched for his church
softball team. He loved to travel and was often seen walking along
the country roads of west Sebastopol. Donations may be made to
