Windsor in midst of busy off-season programĀ
The cornerstone of every successful high school basketball team is an effective off-season program, allowing players to work on weaknesses while honing strengths in preparation for the upcoming winter campaign.Ā
Thatā€™s the focus for the Windsor High School Jaguars this summer, with the boys in the midst of an ambitious summer schedule that features participation in four tournaments and a total of some 20 games.
Although winning is always a goal, the main focus of the program lies in building personal and team growth while promoting chemistry. The summer team features a core of six returning seniors with a group of first-year varsity players looking to build a cohesive unit for next season.
ā€œWeā€™ve had a good turnout this summer with about 15 (varsity) kids that are committed to the program,ā€ WHS varsity coach Travis Taylor reported. ā€œWeā€™ve been stressing defense and fundamentals, but overall we just want the kids to establish a mentality of competing hard each game.ā€
The Jags have already participated in three Marin County tournaments, including San Rafael, the Golden Gate Shootout (Redwood) and Sir Francis Drake.
Windsor will wrap up the summer program with its annual Summer Shootout Tournament on July 1-16. Participating teams are expected to be Ukiah, Cardinal Newman, Piner, Healdsburg, Marin Catholic, Novato, San Marin, St. Vincent, Cloverdale, Roseland Prep, Santa Rosa and Windsor.
