Inside moves – Jack Amormino (with ball) looked for an opening in the Windsor Summer Shootout basketball tourney on Sunday against Analy. The Jags won all five games played.

The Jaguars turned in a great showing at the annual Windsor Summer Shootout basketball tournament on July 14-15, winning all five games played to hoist the championship trophy.
Windsor began the two-day tourney on Saturday with a 40-38 win over Marin Catholic, and picked up steam with a 55-26 rout over Elsie Allen. The Jaguars soundly defeated Kelseyville (75-38) and Maria Carrillo (54-28) before slipping past previously unbeaten Analy in the finale, 39-38.
Easily the game of the tournament, Sunday’s clash with the Tigers went down to the wire with the game knotted at 38-all.
Windsor guard Jaden Ruybalid came up with the play of the game, as he stole the ball and was fouled on a lay-up attempt as the clock expired. Ruybalid calmly knocked down the winning free throw with no time left to lift his team to a 39-38 victory.
Although the summer program has far more to do with team improvement than winning, first-year head coach Jared Greninger has been pleased with the Jags’ off-season development.
“The team is progressing well both offensively and defensively,” Greninger reported. “They’re becoming more familiar with the spacing and movement that drives this offense. Defensively, our awareness and physicality has improved tremendously since the beginning of summer.”
The Windsor Summer Shootout roster included seniors Jack Amormino, Andrew Corcoran, Damian Carnahan, Vince Corday, juniors Jaden Ruybalid, Robert Reed, Billy Boyle, Dante Mendoza, Christian Jernigan and Luke Kraft, sophomore Khalil Bhangoo and freshman Tyler McBratney.
Hard work and chemistry have not been a problem as Windsor transitions to a new coaching staff, with the players responding well to the system.
“I’m really enjoying how these guys are growing as a team,” Greninger noted. “They like to have fun when they play and are continuing to realize that having fun comes with outworking their opponent.”
