Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill was the venue for the annual Meet of Champions high school track meet on May 17 and 18, a final qualifier for athletes with CIF State aspirations.
The two-day event included preliminary races on Friday and final events were contested under wet and blustery conditions on Saturday.Ā
Most athletes entered the MOC with one goal in mind – a top three finish in their respective event – good for advancement to the prestigious state meet on May 24 and 25 at Buchanan High School in Clovis.
Although there were no state qualifiers among the five-person Windsor contingent, there were plenty of outstanding performances to go around.Ā Ā
Representing the Jaguars at the MOC were senior Lucas Chung (1,600, 3,200 meters), senior Vince Corday (300 meter high hurdles), junior Kendall Campos 100, 200 meters) and sophomore Isabela Chavez (100 meters). Sophomore Emily Johnson also qualified for the MOC in the triple jump but did not compete.
Chung advanced to the finals in both of his events, finishing eighth overall in the 1,600 meters (4:22.95) and was ninth in the 3,200 meters (9:27.61). Corday also advanced to Saturdayā€™s final in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles, finishing ninth overall in 41.83. Ā
Campos was 19th in the 200 meter prelims with a time of 26.96, finishing 20th in the 100 meter prelims with a clocking of 12.97.
Chavez also had a strong in Fridayā€™s prelims, finishing 14th overall in the 100 meters in 12.71, while taking 16th in the 200 meters in 26.72.Ā  Ā
