Windsor will host Maria Carrillo on Feb. 2
The Jaguars continued to roll in North Bay League varsity basketball action on Jan. 31, easily defeating the host Rancho Cotate Cougars in a 76-52 rout in Rohnert Park.
The win kept Windsor in the hunt for NBL supremacy at 9-1 and 18-4 overall, just a game back of unbeaten Cardinal Newman (10-0) with four games left on the schedule.
Rounding out the league standings (as of Feb. 1) were Montgomery (8-2), Santa Rosa (5-5), Ukiah (3-6), Maria Carrillo (3-6), Casa Grande (1-9) and Rancho Cotate (0-10).
The Jags will resume league play this Thursday, Feb. 2 when they host Maria Carrillo, followed by a key Monday, Feb. 6 clash with visiting Montgomery.  Start times for the JV and varsity are 6 and 7:30 p.m.
Smith brothers fuel win
Tuesday’s visit to Rancho Cotate evolved into a highlight reel for Windsor’s “Twin Towers,” as brothers Riley and Justin Smith showcased their considerable talent and tenacity.
The Jaguars got out in front quickly, racing to a 23-12 lead after one before settling for a 39-28 advantage at the half. Windsor gained separation with a 15-8 run in the decisive third quarter for an 18 point cushion en route to an eventual 76-52 win.
“We played pretty well offensively, but it was not our best effort on the defensive end of the floor,” Jags head coach Travis Taylor said. “We will continue to work to reach our potential as we head down the home stretch in league play.”
Riley Smith turned in a sensational effort with a team-high 25 points, while Justin Smith was a handful for defenders in pouring in 21 points and adding 7 rebounds. Other scorers included Travis Carlozzi (13 points), Ethan Wright (8 points), Kobe Roman (7 points) and Brandon Mallie (2 points).
