Windsor was not to be denied in the Sept. 26 meeting with Ukiah, enjoying a great all-around effort to post a win in three games; 25-20, 25-21, 25-21.
The victory was a welcome result after a rough start to the NBL season, going a long way toward restoring team confidence.
“It was nice to get back on the winning track after three straight losses in league,” Jags coach Rich Schwarz reported. “The scores were a little closer than the games seemed, as we were in control of each game and I was able to get all the players into the match.”
Pacing the Windsor net attack were setter Kaitlyn Alger (24 assists, 14 digs, 2 aces), outside hitter Destiny Clark (17 digs, 0 hitting errors), outside hitter Elena Dyer (10 digs, 8 kills, 7 aces), Madison Weber (6 kills, 5 digs) and libero Kylie Benjamin (24 digs, 3 aces).
The Jaguars traveled to face unbeaten Santa Rosa on Sept. 28, giving the Panthers all they could handle before falling in five sets: 13-25, 25-23, 10-25, 25-21, 11-15.
“This match was a capsule of our season to date,” Schwarz noted. “When we play bad we beat ourselves and when we play well we can beat anyone in our league.”
Windsor nearly overcame its struggles in games one and three, fueled by outstanding defensive play from Katie Todd, Rene Tolson, Samantha Stewart, Isabella Earl and Benjamin to take games two and four.
The fifth and final set was a battle, with the Jaguars taking a 9-8 lead before a pair of service errors gave the Panthers the lead for good en route to a 15-11 Santa Rosa win.
“The girls know they can play with anyone and we will continue to work hard in practice on lowering our error rate in matches.” Schwarz said. “Everyone contributed well in this match.”
Statistical leaders for Windsor were Benjamin (season high 40 digs), Alger (23 assists, 15 digs, 2 aces), Clark (16 kills, 10 digs) and Dyer (10 kills).
