Windsor wins two of three; pushes record to 4-1
The Jaguars enjoyed a solid weekend of high school basketball at the annual Fred Iten Tournament in Ukiah, claiming two wins in three outings to bring home a third place trophy.

The Jags sandwiched a 49-45 loss to West Valley with wins over Eureka (55-45) and Analy (62-42), pushing their preseason record to 4-1.
“I’m very proud of my boys and we were very pleased to bring home a third place trophy in our first preseason tournament together,” Windsor coach Jared Greninger said, citing junior center Christian Jernigan for a great weekend performance. “Our roster is loaded with guards and forwards who excel at outside shooting, so it’s important for us to have an inside presence to balance our offensive attack, and Jernigan did a great job at that for us in the tournament.”
Jags earn wins
Windsor opened the action on Nov. 29 in a 9 p.m. match-up with Eureka, jumping out to a 13-6 lead after one before going up 27-20 at the half. With the Loggers employing full-court pressure, the Jaguars ultimately won the game at the foul line to claim a 55-45 victory.
Top scorers for Windsor included Jordan Merical (15), Jernigan (14 points, 17 rebounds) and Billy Boyle (10).
The Jags took on West Valley in game two on Nov. 30, perhaps feeling the effects of a late-night opener. Windsor battled its opponent for 32 minutes but would fall, 49-45. Pacing the attack were Merical (17) and Jernigan (16 points, 18 boards).
“West Valley ran their half court offense like they’ve been playing together for years,” Greninger noted. “Their off ball movement exposed some of our weaknesses on defense that we will need to shore up before league play starts.”
Windsor came out with a vengeance in the third-place game against Analy on Dec. 1, putting together arguably its best outing of the young season en route to a 62-42 rout.
Jernigan secured all-tourney honors in leading the team with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Other top scorers included Boyle (15) and Merical (12).
The Jaguars will participate in the annual Rose City Tournament at Cardinal Newman on Dec. 6-8.
