Windsor pushes record to an even 10-10
The varsity basketball Jaguars maintained contact with the .500 mark in recent North Bay League hoops action, gaining an even split in games against Analy and Cardinal Newman.
Windsor (1-3, 10-10) opened the string on Jan. 8 with a convincing, 52-32 rout over the visiting Tigers, but weathered a disappointing 63-40 setback to Cardinal Newman two nights later.
At press time the Jaguars were preparing to start a five-game NBL road swing at Piner on Jan. 16, followed by a Friday, Jan. 18 trip to Santa Rosa. Windsor will visit Montgomery next Wednesday, Jan. 23. Tip-off times for the JV and varsity are 5 and 7:30 p.m.
Jags gain split
The Jaguars set the tone with a great first half against a stunned visiting Analy squad in the Jan. 8 meeting, holding the Tigers to just nine points to grab a 33-9 cushion at the break. Analy fought an uphill battle in the final two quarters as the Jags cruised to a 52-32 victory. Top point-getters for Windsor were Jordan Merical (17), Jaden Ruybalid (11) and Christian Jernigan (7 points, 11 boards, 5 blocks).
The Jaguars entertained visiting Cardinal Newman on Jan. 10, playing the Cardinals tough to trail 24-19 at the half. The visitors took over after intermission, holding Windsor to eight points in the final period en route to a 63-40 rout.
“The physicality and pressure from the Cardinals in the second half proved to be too much for us,” Jags’ coach Jared Greninger said. “That led to the game getting away from us in the fourth quarter.”
Merical finished up with a team-high nine points, while other top scorers included Billy Boyle (8) and Jernigan (8).
