Windsor will resume league play this week
The Jaguars got in a busy stretch on the high school baseball diamond during spring break, playing three games in the annual A.L. Rabinovitz Tournament in Santa Rosa.
The event, hosted by Montgomery High School, included tourney games played at various venues around Santa Rosa, with each team logging three games.
The Jaguars were arguably the hard-luck guys of the tourney, dropping the first two contests to Analy (6-5) and Maria Carrillo (6-5) on March 19 in walk-off fashion, but showed grit in the tourney finale on March 21 in pulling out a 7-6 walk-off victory over Montgomery.
“Tuesday was a tough day for the Jaguars, with the two walk-off losses stunning our ball club,” Jag’s coach Dave Avila said. “The boys showed a lot of heart on Tuesday, and it showed on Thursday. This is a very mature team, and our senior leadership is incredible. Games like these will only make us tougher later,” he added.
Jags fall in heartbreakers
The March 19 Rabinovitz opener against Analy was a see-saw battle, with the Jags clawing back from a pair of early deficits to take a 5-4 lead. The Tigers would not be denied, scoring the game-winner on a double by Ethan Silverstrich to walk off with a 6-5 win.
Windsor pitchers included Gary Hall (4 IP, 6 hits, 3 ERs, 4 Ks), Matt Kemper (2 IP, 3 hits, ER, 4 Ks) and Cameron Hayman (1 IP, 2 hits, 2 ERs, K). Top hitters were Brett Boudrow (1 for 1, 2 RBIs), Joseph Soltanizadeh (1 for 2, RBI), Will Matthews (1 for 2, run), Chris Torres (1 for 1, run), Hayman (1 for 4), Nick Pariani (1 for 3, run) and Cyrus Soltanizadeh (1 for 4, run).
After a short 20-minute break, the heartbreak continued in the second tourney game against Maria Carrillo. The Pumas took an early 3-0 lead but the Jaguars came back to knot the contest at 3-3. Trailing 5-3, Windsor got a two-run single from Pariani to tie it at 5-apiece. The score remained deadlocked until the seventh when the Pumas laced a bases-loaded hit through a drawn in infield to walk off with a 6-5 win.
Seeing mound duty were Francis Freenor (3 IP, 6 hits, 4 ERs, 3 Ks), Devon Reynolds (1.2 IP, 2 hits, 0 runs, K) and Joseph Soltanizadeh (1.2 IP, 2 hits, ER, K), while leading hitters included Gary Hall (2 for 4, 2 runs), Joseph Soltanizadeh (2 for 3), Pariani (1 for 3, 2 RBIs), Carson Ramocinski (1 for 3, run, RBI) and Matthews (1 for 3, RBI).
Windsor’s patience was rewarded in the March 21 clash with Montgomery, this time clawing back from a 6-4 deficit with solo runs in the final three frames, the last one coming on an RBI single from Hall, to walk off with a 7-6 win.
Hayman (6 IP, 6 hits, 2 ERs, 6 Ks) and Kemper (1 IP, 0 hits, 3 ERs, 2 Ks) shared mound chores, while top hitters were Ramocinski (2 for 4, run, RBI), Hayman (2 for 3, 2B, 2 runs), Hunter Dannenbring (1 for 4), Nick Landeros (1 for 3, 2 runs), Kemper (1 for 4, 2 RBIs) and Hall (1 for 5, RBI).
The Jaguars (2-1, 4-3-1) will resume league action on March 28 at Piner (4 p.m.) and come home to host Santa Rosa on April 3 (4 p.m.).
