Gerardo Perez takes the reins in first season of realignment

The 2019-19 winter soccer season should be an exciting one for the Windsor High School Jaguars, taking the field in the first season following radical North Bay League realignment.

Former Jag’s star player and JV coach Gerardo Perez has taken the reins from former head coach Andres Flores, eager to compete in the highly competitive NBL Oak Division.
“This year we have a young team with seven freshmen and four sophomores playing varsity,” Perez reported. “The future looks bright, but the team is playing at a very high level of soccer and will be very competitive this year. We have a lot of talent and therefore lots of competition for positions, which increases the level of play,” he added.
Back to lead the Jaguars are senior four-year varsity center-midfielder and team captain Zach Perez, senior defender Federico Reyes, senior forward Juan Silva and senior Jair Orincho. In addition, the team returns junior Manuel Amador sophomore Marius Bossard, last year’s leading scorer, and talented sophomore Braeden Behrens.
First-year varsity players include freshmen Dayron Garcia, Flynn Stokeld, John Weber, Juan Delgado, Alexandro Barragan, Alex Rosales and Kai Sperbeck, sophomores Oscar Palmerin and Gabriel Morales, juniors Rueiland Martinez, Gerardo Rosas, Jose Rico, Andres Angel, Jesus Garcia and Antonio Carranza, and seniors Salvador Miranda and Omar Lopez.
Assistant coaches are Jaime Robledo, Jesus Perez and Mando Perez. The JV coach is Fernando Marron.
The Jags will be among the league contenders in the new-look NBL Oak Division, which also includes Elsie Allen, Healdsburg, Montgomery, Rancho Cotate and Santa Rosa.
Windsor has already logged a pair of matches on the preseason circuit, opening up on Nov. 27 with a 5-0 rout over Justin Siena. The Jags played host to Concord on Saturday, falling to the Minutemen, 2-1.
Next up for Windsor is a home match with Sonoma Valley on Dec. 4 (after press time), followed by a Friday, Dec. 7 clash with visiting Ukiah (7 p.m.). The Jaguars will open the league campaign in the friendly confines on Jan. 9 against Santa Rosa.
