River resident Jacob Eric Alexander, 18, died suddenly and
unexpectedly due to a blood clot in his small intestine at 1 a.m.
on Thursday, June 10. Jake had cerebral palsy, which confined him
physically, but not mentally or emotionally. He had just attended
his senior prom with his true love and intended life mate, Carey,
and had enjoyed a week’s vacation with his family at Disneyland,
his favorite place on Earth. He had also been through graduation
practice for El Molino High School, where he had joyously led the
seniors down the processional in his power wheelchair. Jake was
full of life, had an infectious smile and touched the lives of
everyone he met in a very positive way. He had a passion for
writing, and had just completed his senior project, which was,
appropriately, an autobiography entitled “The Life of Jake.” Jake
was enrolled for the fall semester at SRJC and proud to have
received a Doyle Scholarship. Jake’s death comes as a shock to
everyone, but please know that he died happy, full of hopes and
dreams for his future, and surrounded by his family and many close
friends. He is survived by his mother and father, Randall Barron
and Rachelle Alexander, his siblings Vanessa, Sara, Katie, Aaron,
Alexa, Alicea, Michael, David, Emily and Meredith, his extensive
extended family, the Monte Rio community and the world at large.
The family is planning a private burial ceremony. A memorial
celebration of Jake’s life will be held this Thursday, June 17, at
2 p.m. in the Monte Rio Amphitheater on Bohemian Highway in
downtown Monte Rio. From River Road in Monte Rio, turn left at the
theater and right after the bridge. The 2004 graduating class at El
Molino has started a memorial scholarship in Jake’s name, and
donations may be made to the Jacob Alexander Memorial Scholarship
Fund, c/o El Molino High School, 7050 Covey Rd., Forestville
95436-9638.
