Lifelong Healdsburg resident and World War II veteran Richard Iverson, who at one time owned a local hardware store, reportedly passed away in his sleep about one month ago — on the same night he celebrated his 97th birthday. From his illustrious obituary: “Richard served in the Navy during WWII, sailing a tugboat across the Pacific Ocean to Shanghai. He also served in the Korean War as a Lieutenant in the Army. Richard graduated from UC Davis and ran two Buick dealerships with his brother, Don, until 1975 when he moved the family to Healdsburg to operate his newly purchased Coast-to-Coast Hardware store. After 10 years of being in the hardware business, [his wife] Barbara said she was ready to travel, so Richard sold the business and visited China, Ireland, France, Turkey, Finland, Mexico, Haiti, and the Czech Republic, to name just a few of their adventures.” Richard was also a lifelong member of the Kiwanis Club of Healdsburg. A celebration of life will be held for him on Jan. 6 at the clubhouse for the Riverview neighborhood at the base of Fitch Mountain, where he lived. (Legacy.com)
