At 11 a.m. on Saturday, St. John’s will host funeral services for Margaret Jackson, a local elementary school teacher who died late last year in her mid-70s. Margaret was a third-generation Healdsburg native who “returned to her hometown to begin her lifelong teaching career” after getting her credential at Chico State. More from her obituary: “Margaret began her career at St. John’s School, moving on to HUSD where she taught primary grades until her retirement. Margaret was a beloved teacher and colleague. She devoted her life to her students and was a master at teaching students to read in a caring and loving environment. Margaret mentored many beginning teachers. Margaret changed lives.” After her funeral on Saturday, the community is invited to “a potluck lunch at the hall at the church,” a close friend of Margaret’s tells me over email. “Please feel free to bring a dish to share in Margaret’s honor,” her obit says. Also: “In remembrance of this extraordinary teacher, please take a few minutes to read with a child.” (Source: Legacy.com)
