March came in like a little lamb, tiptoeing around the corner
from February. You know what that means…we’ll have a roaring
departure. Send spring news (tame or wild) to id*******@hb*****.com. “IDlewood
3…” is your “who, what, where” column and “Hedda Healdsburg” wants
to know all!
Jody Wilson reports in about the “Linus Ladies” who make
blankets and quilts for Sonoma County children. The ladies
celebrated completion of 100 blankets and quilts by eating out
together at Frank & Ernie’s, our new local restaurant. “Judy
Hilgert, the wonderfully organized lady in charge, was also going
to be taken out to dinner the same evening by her husband, since it
was Valentine’s Day,” advised Jody. “And you know it; he had chosen
Frank and Ernie’s.” The Linus Ladies meet at the Senior Center the
first Monday of every month at 2 p.m. All are welcome and knitting
help is available.
Taking tea. About 50 women gathered on February 12th at St.
Paul’s Episcopal Church parish hall for a “First Annual Silver
Friendship Tea.” The silver in the name of the event comes from the
song: “Make new friends, but keep the old; one is silver and the
other gold.” The group invited women from churches throughout the
community in the spirit of friendship and Christian unity. Guests
were from Healdsburg Community Church, St. John’s Catholic Church,
Calvary Hope Chapel, Church of Christ, Scientist, Alexander Valley
Christian Fellowship and Good Shepherd Episcopal Church –
Cloverdale. Conversation flowed as freely as the tea and attendees
found they had things in common in addition to their faith. “Be
sure to call it the ‘first’ annual tea,” said Claire Posson, one of
the organizers, “because we want to do it again next year!”
The Raven Performing Arts Theater is inviting theater-lovers to
join their new Stage Door Club. It’s comprised of an enthusiastic
and generous group of Raven supporters who know how to have a great
time while also doing good. Members receive a ticket for Raven
Players’ productions for one year, an invitation to the annual
donor thank you party, a free beverages and much more. Go to:
www.raventheater.org for
more info.
Congratulations to Healdsburg’s Volunteer of the Year, Ray
Holley. You’ve seen him…everywhere, at fundraisers for the
Grandstand project, working on CASA, supporting countless local
causes and as a columnist for this newspaper. “Here, here –“ a
toast to this great volunteer and ’Burg booster. The City Council
will officially present his award at their April 4th meeting, 6
p.m., at City Hall.
Shopper’s alert. The annual spring Sidewalk Sales will be held
March 18-20th around and about the downtown area. Look for some
great values and fun treasures.
It’s also time for the Chamber’s annual Trade Show and Silent
Auction, to be held April 6th, from 5-7 p.m. at the Villa. The
theme this year is “Ride into the future … to economic prosperity.”
Hold that thought!
Whether you love a tree, hug a tree, or merely are on cordial
terms with a tree, plan on attending an Arbor Day, Earth Day
celebration, April 23rd, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Plaza. Sponsored by
the High School’s Progressive Club, there will be speakers, booths,
music, art, science, a bake sale, a silent auction and children’s
face painting by Mother Earth and friends.
On March 1st, Costeaux Bakery unveiled a fascinating exhibit of
10 historical Healdsburgers. The seppia-toned portraits now on
display were originally produced for the Sesquicenennial
Celebration in 2007. The Bakery is project central for the
Healdsburg Heritage Project: A Tribute to our Past, a $5,000
fundraising drive to restore and preserve our collective northern
California past. Throughout this spring, Costeaux will donate 10
percent of the sales of each purchase of either the Old-Fashioned
Ice Box Cookies or the Sesquicentennial Poppyseed Rum Cake to the
Healdsburg Heritage Project. The goal is to raise $4,000 of the
$5,000 needed. Will Seppi said, “People may also make
contributions. We’ve raised over $500 for the project. Stop in and
be a part of Healdsburg history!”
Congratulations to our new Mr. Healdsburg, Tejpal Sekhon, aka
“Mr. Token,” who was recently crowned at the Raven’s annual
pageant. Will he make his first official, regal appearance at the
St. Patrick’s Day Parade?
