The Humane Society of Sonoma County’s accredited veterinary hospital has been serving local pet owners since 2005. “We are extremely grateful to the pet owners who have entrusted us with the care of their beloved pets”, said Executive Director Cindy Roach. “Clients come here because they know how dedicated our team is to providing compassionate care – and also because they know the proceeds of our services support our shelter programs.”
Roach said this year the society made a decision to focus its resources on programs closest to its mission. “We want to place emphasis on our shelter medical department, which provides veterinary care for stray and homeless animals. In addition, we see that there is a gap in services for homeless and low income pet owners.”
The humane society will close its public hospital in April while it develops strategies for targeted charity veterinary services. “If we can provide a medical service that enables pets to stay with their family and out of the shelter, that is at the heart of what we want to accomplish,” Roach said.
Roach also noted that changing business conditions are contributing to the decision. The veterinary hospital will remain open through April 13, 2018.
The Humane Society of Sonoma County has two locations, 5345 Highway 12 in Santa Rosa and at 555 Westside Road in Healdsburg.
