The varsity Greyhound soccer team remained in the thick of the
title chase after gaining an even split in two games played last
week. The split left the team with a league mark of 3-1 and 7-3-1
on the season.
The Hounds battled league-leading Petaluma tooth and nail on
Tuesday before falling on the Trojans¹ home turf, 3-2.
³Even though we lost, I think our performance against Petaluma
was the best I¹ve seen from any team this year,² said Healdsburg
coach Rob Perman, who was red-carded after arguing with the
officials during the game. ³We played exceptional soccer, the way
the game should be played.²
After trailing 2-0 in the first half, Efrain Aguado got
Healdsburg on the board with an unassisted goal, cutting the
deficit to 2-1 at the break. Mario Gonzalez scored to knot the
contest at two-all midway through the second period, but the
Trojans would tally the winning goal with just 10 minutes to play
to pull out a 3-2 win.
With Perman and assistant coach Tomas Morales relegated to a
spectator¹s role against Sonoma on Thursday, Jenean Bingham and
Herbert Lemus stepped in to help the team to victory. The Hounds
managed a goal from Aguado to emerge with a hard-fought, 1-0
victory. Goalie Luke Wilson recorded the shutout for
Healdsburg.
Healdsburg will entertain perennial power Analy tonight Sept. 28
in a 7 p.m. clash at HHS. The JV kick off the action at 5 p.m.
