Two-part project near Dry Creek Road
A new hotel on Dry Creek Road opened this weekend, and a housing project behind it is filling up.
Hotel Trio was built by Seaview Investors, from Southern California. When Seaview purchased the Engelke Construction yard along Dry Creek Road, across from Big John’s Market, its representatives approached the city of Healdsburg.
Healdsburg City Manager David Mickaelian is credited with a bit of hardball negotiations with Seaview, which resulted in a 37-unit apartment complex being built on a separate, adjacent parcel on Grove Street, along with the hotel.
Citrine Apartments is a mix of one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments and will only be available to applicants who meet low income criteria.
At press time, the apartment complex was more than halfway leased and Brooke Ross was busy interviewing and working with families who hoped to qualify for the apartments in housing-scarce Healdsburg.
On a tour of Citrine last week, Ross admitted that she was hired to market Hotel Trio, the property next door, but expressed satisfaction in helping people find housing as well.
“This will be a beautiful place to live,” she said, showing off a small lounge with TV and couches, a playground, indoor bicycle parking and landscaped grounds.

Hotel Trio, its four stories rising along Dry Creek Road, is now open for guests, even though a few amenities — like the swimming pool — are still being completed.
The hotel is made up of 122 suites, each with a kitchen, free WiFi and other amenities. Ross said that a free shuttle and a fleet of bicycles are intended to encourage guests to leave their cars at the hotel instead of driving downtown, where parking can be challenging. “We can also pick them up at the county airport if they don’t want to rent a car,” she said.
“And, our robot is coming,” Ross said. One of Hotel Trio’s features will be a room service robot, named Rosé, which will be programmed to bring towels, snacks and other requested items to rooms upon request.
Ross is a local and is part of the team that developed and manages the Hampton Inn in Windsor.
