It’s been said more than once that the three most important aspects of baseball are pitching, pitching and pitching.
The Eagles had all three in abundance last week, notching wins over Clear Lake and Willits to push their league mark to 6-3 and 9-7 overall.
The mound efforts came from a pair of crafty veterans, keeping opposing batters off balance with an assortment of effective pitches.
“We had two great wins behind two stellar pitching performances,” CHS coach Ben West said. “Keller Sibert and Dylan Scaramella combined for 13 innings pitched and 20 strikeouts, with just three walks between the both of them.”
Cloverdale will take the momentum into this week’s games, beginning on April 23 (after press time) at Kelseyville, before returning home to host Fort Bragg this Friday, April 26. The Eagles will entertain Middletown next Tuesday, April 30. All games start at 4 p.m.
Arms key win
Sibert (7 IP, 2 hits, 0 runs, 11 Ks) climbed the hill in the April 16 clash at Clear Lake, logging his best performance of the season. The Eagles led 2-0 before exploding for five insurance runs in the seventh en route to a 7-0 victory. Top hitters were David Alvarez (2 for 3, run), Sibert (2 for 4, 2B, 2 runs), Scaramella (1 for 2, run), Tucker Morgan (1 for 4, RBI), Logan Axell (1 for 4), Collin Patterson (1 for 4, RBI) and Drew Edens (1 for 3, run, RBI).
Cloverdale staked Scaramella to a 3-0 lead in the April 19 tilt with visiting Willits, tacking on three more in the fourth and fifth innings in an eventual 10-4 rout. Scaramella (6 IP, 5 hits, 0 ERs, 9 Ks) notched the win while Tyler Ruys (1 IP, 2 hits, 1 ER, 2 Ks) closed it out in mop-up duty. Leading hitters included Ruys (3 for 4, 2B, run, 3 RBIs), Scaramella (1 for 3, RBI), Edens (1 for 3, 2 runs), Josh Lemley (1 for 3, 3 runs, 2 RBIs) and Patterson (1 for 3, 2 RBIs).
