Cloverdale High School’s softball and baseball teams are coming off a perfect stretch on the league diamond, with both logging two wins last week.
The varsity baseball Eagles (11-4, 6-1) kept pace in the NCL-1 standings with road and home victories over Kelseyville (5-1) and Willits (9-7).
At the start of play this week, Cloverdale remained tied with Kelseyville (6-3) for third place, two games back of first-place Clear Lake (8-0) and a half game behind Middletown (5-2). At press time the Eagles were preparing to hit the road for scheduled dates at Lower Lake (April 28) and Middletown (May 1) before coming home to face Fort Bragg on Tuesday, May 5. All games start at 4 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Lady Eagles (11-4, 6-1) are in the thick of the league title chase with recent wins over Kelseyville (10-0) and Willits (19-0). The ladies will start a road swing on April 28 at Lower Lake, followed by a Friday, May 1 trek to Middletown. The Eagles will be back in the friendly confines on May 5 against visiting Fort Bragg (4 p.m.).
Baseballers log wins
The Eagles opened their recent stretch on April 21 at Kelseyville, staking ace hurler Chris Harms (7 IP, 3 hits, 1 ER, 7 Ks) to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Cloverdale tacked on solo runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings en route to a 5-1 victory.
Pacing the offensive attack were Jared Hibbeln (2 for 4, 2 runs), Harms (1 for 4, run), Pat Ojeda (1 for 3, run), David Watson (1 for 3, run, RBI), Michael McDermott (1 for 1, RBI) and Greg Scaramella (2 RBIs).
The Eagles traveled to Willits for a wild one on April 24, spotting the Wolverines a 5-1 lead after three innings.  Cloverdale erupted in a five-run uprising in the fourth for a 6-5 lead, but Willits answered with two runs in the fifth to take a 7-6 advantage.  The Eagles effectively ended all doubt with another three-run rally in the sixth in an eventual 9-7 win.
