High school grapplers shine in local meets, busy week on the mat

Local wrestlers are gearing up for an exciting month of competition, as athletes put in their final work in preparation for Sonoma County League and North Coast Section tournaments.
Last week the Lions and Tigers logged a busy week on the mat, as Analy took on Petaluma and Sonoma Valley, while the Lions also squared off with the Dragons in Sonoma.  
The Tigers (2-2) gained an even split, scoring a 47-31 win over Sonoma Valley, but dropping a 46-30 decision to Petaluma. Scoring wins were 106-pound Trevor Bagan, 113-pound Dalton Gavriloff, 120-pound Justin Adams, 126-pound Austin Henry, 132-pound Ben Talcott, 145-pound Yogi Bazzano, 182-pound Elan Seabourne, 195-pound Alex Perriera and 220-pound Ariel Merhav.   
The Lions (1-3) fell to the host Sonoma Valley Dragons, 45-25 on Jan. 26, with El Mo wins coming from 172-pound Josh Wright, 106-pound Jahmye Daly, 138-pound Sam MacDonell and 195-pound Leo Garza.
On Saturday, the Lions sent a strong contingent to the Puma Classic Tournament hosted by Maria Carrillo.  MacDonell was the top finisher for El Molino, going 4-0 to capture first place in the 138-pound weight class. Other good efforts were had by 170-pound Christian Ohlin (3-2, 7th place), 160-pound Josh Wright (2-2), 120-pound Abraham Martinez (1-2),145-pound Eddie Lopez (1-2) and 106-pound Jahmye Daly (0-2).
