Starting Friday, June 1, the running track and the sports field at Healdsburg High School will be closed until the fall for reconstruction. Current unscheduled uses, like jogging and walking, will not be permitted.
“We anticipate it being closed through October and opening in the beginning of November,” said Superintendent Chris Vanden Heuvel.
“We’re putting in a synthetic turf field, which involves a lot of excavation, and we’re resurfacing the track. We’re also putting in light standards so we have everything fully lit for night games and, of course, some electrical work, irrigation and landscaping,” he said.
The field and track will be closed throughout construction to all uses, including community and school uses.
“Our big push is to have the synthetic turf finished for winter soccer season starting at the beginning of November,” Vanden Heuvel said.
The work is being paid for by Measure D bond proceeds, and will cost approximately $5.4 million.
