Hermann Nock passed away at Mercy Retirement & Care Center
in Oakland on Monday, July 21, 2003 after a lengthy illness. He was
born on August 7, 1905 in Lautenbach, Baden, Germany. The former
resident of Healdsburg was an Alexander Valley prune rancher from
1939 to 1944, and became the owner of Nock’s Feed Store in
Healdsburg in 1944 before retiring in 1970. Nock received public
notoriety when he sold his 168 acre Alexander Valley ranch for
$27,000 in 1944. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Lena Nock;
daughters Eleanor Wilken of Alameda and Diane McCook of Santa
Clara; and son Herman Nock and wife Dorene of Bossier City,
Louisiana; grandchildren Mike and Bruce Nock, Debra Townsend, Vicky
Mahoney, Suzanne McCook and Tom McCook; and nine
great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A memorial
service will be held on Saturday, August 2 at 2 p.m. at Mercy
Care.
