Emily B. Tierney, 88, died peacefully at home in Guerneville on
December 9, 2003. Born in San Francisco in 1915, Emily graduated
from St. Rose Academy and Lone Mountain College (summa cum laude).
After teaching in San Francisco’s public schools, Emily married J.
Tierney with whom she lived for 54 years. Emily was active in
church and school activities throughout her life, specifically at
St. Emydius School and Mercy High School in San Francisco, St.
Mary’s College in Moraga, and St. Elizabeth’s Church in
Guerneville. Emily was predeceased by her husband Martin J. Tierney
and daughter Margaret “Mimi” Tierney. She is survived by Martin and
Sue Tierney of Oakland, Michael and Kathy Tierney of Healdsburg,
Ann and Tersh Fitch of Reno, and John and Nancy Tierney of
Sebastopol, as well as grandchildren Matthew Tierney, Peter and
Jessica Fitch and great-granddaughter Emily Fitch. She is also
missed by her loving caregiver, Viniana Moce. A Mass was held at
St. Elizabeth’s Church on Armstrong Woods Road in Guerneville on
Saturday, December 13. Donations in Emily’s name may be made to a
charity of one’s choice. Emily was interred at Holy Cross Cemetery
in Colma on Monday, December 15.
