Helen LaMar, 88, of Sebastopol, died on Dec. 21. She was born in
Ohio to Austrian immigrants John and Zuzi Hovenac. She assembled
aircraft in Cleveland during World War II. In the late ’50s and
early ’60s she homesteaded in the wilds of Alaska. Later she moved
to Auburn where she studied nursing and later became a LVN. She
moved to Sebastopol in the ’70s to be near her daughter and met and
married Marvin LaMar here. She enjoyed painting, sewing and
traveling.
She is preceded in death by her husband and her daughter Lois
Ann (Shaw) Pierce. She is survived by her sons Vincent Rhea and his
wife, Jeanne, of North Carolina and Larry Rhea and his wife, Nolene
of Texas, her sister, Sopie Echo of Ohio and her son-in-law Kenneth
Pierce of Oregon, her grandchildren Lori (Pierce) Hoppe and her
husband, Gary of Sebastopol, Julie (Pierce) Delventhal and her
husband, Scott of Santa Rosa, Jennifer Rhea of Georgia, Nevin,
Travis and Neally Ann Rhea of Texas, her great-grandchildren Garret
W. and Jerrod M. Hoppe of Sebastopol, her sister-in-law Rosie
Braaten and numerous nieces and nephews.
At her request there will be no services. A private family
memorial will be held at a later date. Donations in her memory can
be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
