Act now to connect
EDITOR: So happy to hear the SDAT recommendation to connect the river, plaza, high school and community center with an off-street trail. For a town that prides itself as a bike and family friendly place, it’s amazing this hasn’t been a priority years ago.
Now that the Foss Creek Pathway is in place let’s finish the job and connect it to the high school and Foss Creek Community Center. For the safety of our children and good of our environment, it should be a top priority. Let’s not wait until a child is killed on our increasingly busy streets before acting.

Attitude check
EDITOR: I have been following, with interest, the discussions about a moratorium on hotel rooms in Healdsburg. If I were a downtown merchant, I would be very unhappy with the rise in rents and the restrictions proposed, keeping valuable customers out of our town.
Well designed hotels can be a valuable part of Healdsburg, when the design and construction is done correctly. I agree that certain conditions need to be addressed but the “not in my town” attitude of many of our residents does not make sense.
Also, by making the owners of new construction build affordable housing, we can solve more than one problem.

Food bank needs help
EDITOR: The Redwood Empire Food Bank has been responding to an increased need for food assistance as a result of the Mendocino Complex Fire. As of last week’s end, we distributed over 200,000 pounds of emergency provisions to Lake County. In order to sustain the food bank’s fire-relief efforts, alongside our regularly scheduled hunger-relief programs, financial donations and volunteer support are urgently needed. Visit refb.org to donate or volunteer.
