Construction continues on a new, 4,162-square-foot “substation” for firefighters at the more rural north end of town. The concrete slab that will serve as a base for the main building was poured last week, the city says. Next, “the wall framing, truss installation, and roof sheathing are expected to be complete by mid-January.” The new station is located right next to the “North Village” development taking shape across Healdsburg Avenue from the Montage resort. City leaders have called the firefighting outpost “an added layer of fire protection” for Healdsburg — including “regional training grounds, meeting space and equipment staging to allow our fire department and partner agencies to better respond to future emergencies.” They expect it to be complete by the end of next year.
