Just in time to get us through this heat wave, Memorial Beach opened for the summer season on Monday, July 1. It’s not just a big, sad pile of sand anymore!

From Sonoma County parks officials, who oversee our little stretch of river sand: “The swimming beach on the Russian River at Healdsburg Veterans Memorial Beach is open for the summer! The seasonal dam is up, the beach is graded, and swim areas are clearly marked. Lifeguards on duty daily through Labor Day. Free loaner life jackets are also available for use during the summer. Bring a picnic and come wade, swim or paddle!”

Memorial Beach opens at 7am each morning and closes half an hour before sunset. A parking spot costs $10. You can find more info on the county’s website.

Del Rio, our other local river beach a ways upstream — also run by the county — is open for visitors as well, during the same hours. Super hard to park out there, though. Find more info on Del Rio here.
