Nancy Ruth Malott
Loved to Travel
Nancy Ruth Malott died on June 2, 2011, she was 68. She is
survived by her daughter Susie (Mike) Lenhares, of Sebastopol and
their two sons Auden and Otto; brother Richard (Jessica) Camp Jr.
and their two children Rich and Christina. Nancy grew up at Lakota
Beach on Puget Sound in Washington. She often spoke about her life
by the water and that early experience was a source of joy and
nostalgia for her throughout life. She went to school in Federal
Way and many of her classmates were lifelong friends. Nancy moved
to California in the late 1970s and moved to Sonoma County in 1981
with her daughter Susannah. Nancy made her living as a bookkeeper
working for over a decade in this capacity for the Summerfield
Waldorf School on Willowside Road in Santa Rosa. She was passionate
about the Waldorf School philosophy and made sure that both her
daughter and her grandsons benefitted from this type of
education.
Nancy loved to travel and visited such places as Ecuador, the
Caribbean, Tanzania and the Galapagos Islands; primarily to
photograph the blue footed boobies that reside there. Locally, she
could be seen most mornings walking down Matheson Street and
stopping at the Flying Goat for coffee. Nancy had an artistic
spirit and was a great fan of whimsy. She faithfully read the movie
reviews of Nick LaSalle and claimed he was near infallible seeing
every movie that he recommended. Nancy had a wonderful sense of
humor, laughed easily, telling jokes frequently and brought
lightness into everyday situations. Nancy was a loyal friend and as
they say, “never knew a stranger.” She found something of interest
in just about everyone.
The family would like to publicly thank the staff at Healdsburg
Hospital who saw her through her final days. Donations can be made
in Nancy’s name to the Sebastopol Waldorf Charter School and the
Healdsburg District Hospital.
Edward King
Army Air Corps veteran
Edward King was born June 7, 1919 in Alameda CA to Clara and
Edward E. King. He attended local schools in Alameda, CA and
graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a B S in
Chemistry. On January 1, 1942 he married Mary Elizabeth Parker of
Richmond CA. During WWII Ed King enlisted in the US Army Air Corps
who sent him to the California Institute of Technology (CALTECH) in
Pasadena, CA to obtain a Master of Science in Meteorology. He later
achieved the rank of Captain and left the service in 1946. After
the war ended, he was employed as a Research Scientist in
Calorimetry with the US Bureau of Mines then located in the Hearst
Mining Building, University of California Berkeley later becoming
the head of the lab. Retiring from US Federal Service, in 1977, he
purchased a 68 acre vineyard in the Alexander Valley, Cloverdale,
CA and grew Cabernet Sauvignon grapes for over 20 years. In 1997 he
and his wife sold the vineyard and moved to Healdsburg. He is
survived by his wife Mary Elizabeth King, daughter Elizabeth
Aynesworth of Orinda CA, sons John King living in Wasilla, Alaska,
James King of Oakland CA, Richard King of Tacoma WA and two
grandsons.
Internment was Friday, June 17, 2011 at the US Department of
Veteran’s Affairs, Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon
CA.
Lois Marie Bohn
Active volunteer
Lois Marie Bohn died on June 16, 2011 at her home in Healdsburg,
CA surrounded by the love of her family. Born June 19, 1927, she
was the oldest of three daughters born to Leo and Marie Bleich.
Lois was raised in the small farming community of Wesley, IA. After
graduating high school, she attended Iowa State University and Iowa
State Teachers College. In 1947, Lois married Willis Bohn of St.
Paul, Minnesota. Together they moved to Ames, Iowa where Willis
completed his engineering degree at Iowa State University. Lois and
Willis moved to California in 1952 and settled in Tiburon where
they raised their five children.
Lois was actively involved in St. Hilary Catholic Church in
Tiburon, including the church salvage shop where she volunteered
countless hours over many years. After she and Willis moved to
Healdsburg in 1985, they became members of Our Lady of Guadalupe
Catholic Church in Windsor. Lois also became a member of the Dry
Creek Neighbors Club and she joined a local knitting group where
she learned the art of knitting sweaters. Lois loved the simple
things in life and had lifelong hobbies of rock collecting and bird
watching. Always her greatest love was her family and the joy of
having children and grandchildren around. Lois was preceded in
death by her husband Willis in 2001. She is survived by five
children Richard Bohn of Costa Mesa, CA, Jim Bohn and wife Lorinda
of Spokane, WA, Jack Bohn of Georgetown, CA, Patrick Bohn of
Healdsburg, CA, and Jodie Stager of Beaverton, OR, ten
grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is also survived
by two sisters Margie and husband Jack Bohn of Palos Verdes, CA and
Lorraine and husband Jerry Gallogy of Indianapolis, IN and several
very special nieces and nephews.
A rosary was held Thursday, June 23 at Windsor-Healdsburg
Mortuary. The funeral mass was held at Our Lady of Guadalupe
Catholic Church in Windsor on Friday, June 24. In lieu of flowers,
the family requests memorial donations to Memorial Hospice, 821
Mendocino Avenue, Santa, Rosa, CA 95401.
