Softball, shmoftball! Healdsburg Little League officials just announced that they’re forming an all-girls baseball team this year, for the first time in the league’s nearly 35-year history. Now they just need some brave young girl to fill out the roster. If you happen to know one who might fit the bill, you can reach out to in**@he****************.com about it.

From the Little League announcement:

We’re thrilled to announce an incredible new opportunity: our very first all-girls baseball team! This team is open to girls ages 6-8 (Ex: Little League age 6 by 8/31/2025), and we’re looking for players to join the roster. It’s a wonderful way for young girls to step up to the plate, build friendships, and fall in love with America’s favorite pastime. We’re proud to have one of our amazing coaches leading this team, ensuring a fun, welcoming, and positive experience for all participants. Let’s rally behind this fantastic effort to create an inspiring space for young girls in baseball!

Up to now, girls have been allowed to play on Healdsburg Little League teams, but not too many have stepped up to the plate. One of the famous few is Gracie Scott, daughter of former Little League information officer and volunteer coach Geoff Scott. He told me last year that Gracie managed to make the league’s 10-and-under all-star team last summer — “with 12 other boys!” He added: “I believe the league was formed in the early ’90s. We had only a handful of girls play baseball this year. … We really would love to get the word out that girls can play baseball as well as softball.”

So whadya say, girls? Anyone game?
