The City of Healdsburg is honoring this year’s graduating class of Healdsburg High School seniors with banners of their faces hung around the downtown area. It’s a tradition that started, I believe, as a response to the COVID lockdown that stifled some of the traditional end-of-year celebrations for local graduates. (Someone please correct me if I’m wrong!) “Join us in celebrating the remarkable accomplishments of Healdsburg High School’s graduating senior class of 2024!” city officials wrote in a recent Facebook post. “In partnership with the Healdsburg High School, Healdsburg Education Foundation, and our Healdsburg Community Services team, we proudly continue our tradition of decorating the downtown area with banners honoring this year’s graduates. Pursuing dreams demands relentless passion, commitment, and sacrifice. Join us in celebrating the Healdsburg High School class of 2024!” There’s also a thread running in the “What’s Happening Healdsburg” Facebook group about how much everyone loves that the city has been hanging these banners each year. “When I moved here last year I thought this was just amazing for the local youth to be recognized,” one woman says. Another neighbor adds: “Says ‘we are a community’ not just a lovely tourist draw.” The graduation ceremony for the Class of 2024 will be held at the high school this coming Friday, June 7, from 7-8pm, followed by the annual “grad night” celebration that lets kids party together under the watchful eye of chaperones.
