Season features selections from “Hamilton,” “Wicked,” and other Broadway hits

The Healdsburg Community Band opens its 2019 Season with smash hits from the Broadway stage and Hollywood at its annual Pops Concert on Saturday, March 9 at the Raven Performing Arts Center, 115 North St., in downtown Healdsburg.
Downbeat is at 7:30 p.m. and admission is free.
The program, conducted by Randy Masselink, features a number of selections from “Hamilton,” “Wicked,” “Funny Girl,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Silverado” and other popular shows. Guest vocalist Susan Witt-Butler will also perform.
“As we celebrate our 37th season, the annual Pops Concert is probably our favorite performance of the year,” observes HCB president David Brandt. “The music ranges from familiar toe-tappers through intricate contemporary pieces to pure swing, letting audiences  experience the band’s full range of talents.”
The Healdsburg Community Band is an all-volunteer, comprised of about 50 musicians who get together for the joy of making music and serving the community. The nonprofit organization supports music at Healdsburg High and the Cloverdale Schools with donations, including scholarships and benefit concerts. Many of the concerts are free, thanks to support from sponsors. Donations are gratefully accepted.
Band members have a wide range of skill levels, and local residents are encouraged to join if they play or used to play an instrument. There are no auditions, but applicants should have basic ability to read music.  www.healdsburgcommunityband.org
