Longtime Windsor/Healdsburg resident, Gregorio De Luna, passed away at the age of 83 on Thursday, December 27, 2018, after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, nine children, twelve grandchildren and numerous extended family members.
Gregorio, known by many as “Don Goyo,” moved to Healdsburg in 1974. He worked for many years at his brother’s store La Luna Market which was the first grocery store in Sonoma County where Mexican products were sold. Clients were greeted by Don Goyo and made to feel like family during his many years at the store. He enjoyed talking about his family and was quick to introduce his children to customers as his children often visited him at the store. In 1985, he started his own business of driving to rural areas and selling Mexican food products, especially fresh tortillas. He had a loyal following of customers, many of whom have stayed longtime good friends, long after he retired.
Since moving to Sonoma County, Gregorio and his family have been parishioners at St. John’s Catholic Church and Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. His passion was celebrating life’s special moments with his 9 children, everything from baptisms, quinceañeras, graduations and weddings. One of his recent special moments was celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary in 2015.
Gregorio De Luna will always be remembered as a family man who loved having his children and grandchildren around. He is survived by his wife Ramona De Luna and his children Gregorio De Luna Jr, Luisa Ruvalcaba(Cenobio), Inez De Luna Sierra(Ruben), Enedina Martinez(Ruben), Eva Favila, Lucia De Luna, Irma Muñoz(Lewis), Pedro De Luna(Tere), and Antonia Churchill(Ryan). And his grandchildren Cenobio Jr., Ivan and Diego Ruvalcaba, Catalina and Kevin Leon, Marisa and Victoria Martinez, Sophia Favila, Athina Munoz and Melanie, Melina, and Maritere De Luna.
A rosary will be held on Friday, January 4th at 7 p.m. with viewing starting at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be on Saturday, January 5th with mass at 11 a.m., both services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Windsor. A Celebration of Life will follow funeral services.
