HANG TEN — These graduates were decorated with flowers rather
than cap and gown. Each of the 25 graduates wore a Hawaiian style
lei of fresh flowers and the girls were adorned even further with
flowers in their hair. The tropical theme carried over into the
surroundings and a string of beach balls lined the ceiling of the
auditorium and grass skirts dangled from the tables in the room.
Ama Waya Bivin, Alondra Perez, Geordi Cates and Paradee Johnson
were not only graduates but student speakers who spiced up the
ceremony along with a vocal performance by Ana Eva and Ama Waya
Bivin. The school’s prestigious scholar award went to Elijah
Larsen-Yskamp and the outstanding student award was given to Ana
Eva. After receiving their diplomas, the students left the building
to the surfer song “Wipe Out.” – photo by Kimberly
