Frank Zunino passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 10, 2004
at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Bob Lownes.
Frank was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary, their
daughters Carol and Mary Lou, his sister May and his brothers Ben,
Emil, Fred, Henry and John. He is survived by his daughters Shirley
Lownes and Betty Wagner, his son Richard Zunino, and numerous
grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His family would especially like
to remember Lala Sawyers who has been a tireless caregiver for the
last 18 months. Frank was born in 1910 to Louie and Carlotta Zunino
in Healdsburg. He lived in Healdsburg his entire life, leaving only
in 1942 when he enlisted in the United States Army. He served in
the 248th Field Artillery in the Philippines and Korea and was
honorably discharged in 1946. Frank returned home and resumed work
as a farmer and tractor operator. In 1951 he married Mary Loza.
Frank worked on the Grace Collier ranches before the war and
participated in the transition from horse power to tractor power.
In 1954 he went to work for the Hopkins family on Eastside Road and
continued to work on the Hopkins ranch until his retirement. His
many years of loyal service are deeply appreciated. Frank loved
working in the outdoors, whether in hops, prunes, pears and grapes
or with sheep or cattle in the corral or pasture. After work, he
could usually be found in his garden or caring for his animals. He
had many fond memories of growing up in Healdsburg and hunting and
gathering mushrooms in the hills above Dry Creek and the Russian
River with his brother, Ben. Friends are welcome to attend Funeral
Services on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at Bob and Shirley Lownes’
residence on 1289 Felta Road in Healdsburg at 11 a.m. Private
interment will be at Oak Mound Cemetery at a later date. Memorial
donations may be made to your favorite charity.
