Jags defender Bas Osborn (57) wrapped up Hayward quarterback Ramon Barraza on one of 10 sacks on Friday in a swarming defensive effort. The Jaguars beat the Farmers 46-12.

Jags take 1-2 record into NBL opener on Saturday at Carrillo
The Jaguars scored their first win of the 2017 football campaign on Friday, jumping all over visiting Hayward in the pre-league finale, 46-12.
The result was just what the doctor ordered from a Windsor standpoint after starting the season with a pair of lopsided losses to state caliber opponents, with the resounding victory going a long way toward restoring team confidence.
“A lot of praise goes to the players and assistant coaches for having the best week of practice after two very difficult weeks,” WHS head coach Kevin Ballatore said. “It showed the tremendous character of this team. It’s easy to start finger pointing but our guys decided to focus on improving as a team.”
The win gives the Jags a full head of steam as they move on to the North Bay League opener against Maria Carrillo this Saturday, Sept. 23 at Santa Rosa Junior College. Kickoff times for the JV and varsity are 5 and 7:30 p.m.
The Pumas (1-2) are coming off a tough, 26-25 loss to Benicia and should pose a solid test for Windsor this week.
“We need to continue to improve each day and focus on the details on both sides of the ball,” Ballatore noted. “We need to be better students of the game – we made too many critical mistakes that will cost us in league.”
Jags plow farmers
The Jaguars wasted no time in establishing control of the defensive line in Friday’s meeting with Hayward, finishing the night with a season high 10 quarterback sacks and five turnovers.
The offense, led by emerging sophomore quarterback Nick Pariani, took full advantage of great field position after the Farmers’ miscues to grab an insurmountable 30-0 cushion at the end of one.
The Jaguars used the big lead to empty their bench in the second half, adding another pair of touchdowns on their way to a 46-12 rout.
Pariani turned in his best game to date under center, finishing with 13 completions on 21 pass attempts for 161 yards and three touchdowns. Junior Patrick Tappin led the receiving corps with a pair of scoring catches, while all-purpose back Jorgen Sarganis had one touchdown catch and 120 yards of total offense (61 rushing and 59 receiving). Running back Lorenzo Leon also claimed his first rushing touchdown of the season.
Defensively, the Jags had a pair of scores, one on a pick-six from Tappin, the other coming on a scoop and return by Ryan Weir on a strip sack by Bas Osborn. Clay Woo chipped in an interception for Windsor.
