The foundation is being laid for future basketball success for the Analy Flying Tigers this summer, as they continue an ambitious off-season program that promises to have the team primed and ready next winter.
Head coach Jason Carpenter is focused on building a cohesive unit, enhancing strengths while improving weaknesses in an off-season that has included regular weight training and top-level competition in both the league and tournament play.
The Tigers are in the midst of a whirlwind of action, a summer schedule that will have them playing a total of 40 games.
“We’ve been very busy this summer,” Carpenter reported. “We have more than 40 kids in the program and are very excited about the upcoming season.”
Last weekend alone, the Analy freshman, JV and varsity teams played a total of 16 games in various tournaments, showing great improvement at each level.
The Flying Tigers are coming off a tough, 6-20 record last winter in the first year following North Bay League realignment, but figure to be among the most improved teams in the ultra strong Oak Division next season.
The Tigers have plenty of leadership on the varsity squad, led by incoming senior veterans Kevin Wagner, Hayden Davidson, Antonio Sanchez and Sage Boek.
“These guys are going to lead a very talented varsity team this season,” Carpenter noted. “We’re also expecting a big year from junior point guard Oliver Popko.”
