A structure fire destroyed a bedroom and caused additional
damage to a historic home on Windsor road last week. No-one was
hurt and firefighters were able to save the families pet rabbit and
dog.
Windsor Battalion Chief/Fire Marshal Matt Gustafson said
approximatly 20 percent of the home was damaged with one bedroom
bearing the brunt of the flames and supplemental water and smoke
damage throughout the rest of the structure.
Gustafson said the recent staff upgrades to the WFPD provided
enough man power to quickly extinguish the flames and save a
significant quantity of property. “It enabled us to go right in and
do our job,” he said. “We can have two people out for safety,
meeting OSHA requirements, get people on the roof to ventilate it
keep fire from spreading and were able to salvage most of their
downstairs furnishing, artwork, computers. We had the people to do
the jobs that had to be done.”
Fire officials said the investigation was ongoing but said the
fire most likely started on the floor of the upstairs bedroom and
was probably electrical in origin.
Gustafson said early detection and weight of response are
important factors in preserving as much of a property as
possible.
The Windsor police department provided crowd control, public
works helped route traffic and the building department came out to
check the stability of the building. Gustafson said the response
from off duty Town agencies was evidence of the good partnership
between WFPD and the Town.
