Captain appointed as interim chief
Healdsburg Fire Chief Steve Adams submitted a letter of resignation to the city at the end of October, citing personal reasons for his decision.
Healdsburg City Manager David Mickaelian appointed Jason Boaz, a Healdsburg fire captain, as the interim chief.
Boaz has worked for the department, on and off, since 1997, as a firefighter, engineer and captain. He has also worked as an engineer and firefighter in Boise, Idaho and at Skywalker Ranch in Marin County. He has been full time in Healdsburg since 2002 and was named a captain in 2005. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Ethics and Public Policy and is working on his master’s degree in Public Administration.
Mickaelian declined to speculate on Adams’ reasons for leaving, saying that, “Steve did an outstanding job as fire chief here, he was well-respected throughout the county. We have very dedicated staff at the fire department, top to bottom.”
Adams joined the Healdsburg Fire Department as a reservist and became a fire captain in 1998. He became a battalion chief and led the department’s training efforts until he succeeded retiring chief Randy Collins five years ago.
