The 14th annual air show sponsored by the Pacific Coast Air
Museum takes place on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 23 & 24 at the
Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport. This year’s Wings Over
Wine Country show will celebrate 100 years of Powered Flight, and
will include the usual world class aerial performers. Event
organizers note that “The significance of this event cannot be
overstated. This is the 100th year of powered flight, beginning
with the Wright Brothers’ first ever flight of 120 feet on December
17, 1903 … .”
The show will include a static display of an exact replica of
the Wright Flyer as well as a timeline exhibit illustrating the
milestones of flight since 1903.
There will be military performers at the air show, and aerobatic
performances, with warbird and vintage flyers. Gates open both days
at 9 a.m. Admission is $12 for adults and $5 for children and
seniors. Children under 8 are admitted free. For more information,
call the museum at 575-790 or the hotline at 566-8380. The website

Lightning strikes in the North County
They say lightning never strikes twice in the same place — but
it came awfully close last Friday during the freak lightning storm
that passed through Sonoma County. An eyewitness said the lightning
struck inside the Windsor Waterworks water park — twice — in a
very short period of time. Park officials quickly shut down the
water slides and pools for the day. Rain checks and refunds were
issued to customers.
