Last weekend Windsor hosted 720 boys and girls playing basketball in the 7th annual Fall Tip-Off Tournament. The event is co-hosted by Our Lady of Guadalupe’s Catholic Youth Organization Basketball program and The town of Windsor’s Parks and Recreation Department. This year’s tournament was the biggest ever, with 72 teams from 14 parishes participating.
The rain didn’t dampen the fan turn-out as an estimated 1,200 people attended the 106 games that were played over the two days of basketball fun. Games were played in six gyms around Windsor. The tournament’s success can be attributed to the many volunteers including OLG CYO parents and local students.
Four OLG teams walked away with 2nd place medals. Coaches Mark Stainer, Jeff Logue and Jason Kraft all led the 5th grade boys teams to runner up finishes. Coach Rene Meza’s 6th grade boys team also captured second place.
Windsor’s OLG CYO Basketball program has 24 teams and 256 boys and girls playing this season. The program is open to all kids, of all skill levels, in grades 3-8.
The NBCYO season begins Dec. 3. Games are played every Saturday and Sunday at Windsor Middle School. The public is invited to attend all games. For more information about OLG CYO basketball please contact Rich Ruybalid at
