An exhibit of Healdsburg artist Marian Murphy’s abstract art is on display at the Cloverdale History Museum, until Dec. 1. After a career as a mother and secretary, Murphy at the age of 38, fell in love with photography. Studying at the Ohio Institute of Photography, she became a professional photographer and enjoyed her career as a portrait photographer in Healdsburg for 30 years.
She loved working with film, but digital cameras and programs like Photoshop hindered her photographic expressions. In 2009, she began a painting class using yupo paper. Her newfound art gave her an experience combining photography and painting. Asked about her techniques, Murphy said, “I like the whimsy and playfulness of creating art. I love including poetry in my paintings.”
Murphy has exhibited in museums and galleries in Dayton, Ohio. Her paintings and photographs hang in many Healdsburg homes.
