Eugene Warren Whitehall, Sr. was born Nov. 3, 1933 in Pasadena,
CA. He passed away peacefully July 8 in Santa Rosa, surrounded by
his wife Dolores, his six children and numerous grandchildren. Gene
was born and raised in Pasadena. He was an Army Veteran from 1949
to 1951, when he was honorably discharged. He then entered barber
school and practiced that trade for four years. Seeking a more
predictable future, he chose to enter the printing trade. He
remained a proud union offset printer for over 30 years, during
which time he commuted from Healdsburg to San Francisco to Oakland
daily. During his retirement he worked for the City of Santa Rosa
for 15 years as a yard attendant. He enjoyed the friendships he
developed during his time there.
He had a love of history and was a dedicated amateur historian.
He was also a voracious reader. His greatest loves were his wife
Dolores and his six children. He enjoyed summer camping trips in
Trinity and always enjoyed a trip to the coast for fishing or
clamming. He attended every high school sporting event in which his
children participated. For their 50th wedding anniversary, Gene and
Dolores spent three weeks on the road in their trailer traveling to
Yellowstone. He was a dedicated husband and father, and was much
loved by his entire family.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Whitehall II
and Beaulah Whitehall, his brother Preston Whitehall and his
sisters Etta Mae Harr and Ruby Walker. He is survived by his wife
of 54 years, Dolores Whitehall, and their six children, Paula
Whitehall, Roxanna Gunderson (Jerome), Julie Adamson, Gino
Whitehall (Deanna), Earl Whitehall III (Valorie), Brian Whitehall
(Elizabeth); 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and his
sister Jenny Jackson.
If desired, donations in his memory may be made to the
Healdsburg Kiwanis Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1156, Healdsburg, CA
95448.
There will be a viewing on Thursday, July 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. at
