The El Molino Wildcats youth wrestling club continued to make noise on the Coastal Mountain Wrestling Association tournament circuit, with its latest exploits coming on April 14 in a tourney hosted by Drake High School in San Anselmo.
The team took eight wrestlers to the meet competing in both Freestyle and Greco, a style that is not as well known.
“The tournament was without the traditional Folkstyle wrestling that we wrestle in high school and middle school in the U.S.,” Wildcat’s head coach Ron Wright reported. “Our club regularly practices Freestyle, but not a lot of Greco, so it was something new for everyone.”
Top performers for the team in the Schoolboy Division were 7th grader Curby Dimond (3rd place, Freestyle, Greco), Tanner Papola (3rd place, Freestyle, Greco), Nate Wheeler (1st place, Freestyle, 2nd place Greco), Erik Dimond (2nd place Freestyle, Greco) and Coleman Hayes (1st place Freestyle).
In addition and Analy’s Jimmy Carreras competed and finished just out of the medals, while El Mo’s Hannah Ricioli was nursing an injury but was on hand to support her teammates. Assistant coach Josh Wright also competed well, giving up an average of 25 pounds in his matches.
