The El Molino boys volleyball program has been a major player in the North Coast Section Division-3 rankings since bursting onto the scene 10 years ago, making yearly trips to the post-season while capturing Marin County Athletic League and North Coast Section titles.
The lone high school team in Sonoma County, the Lions figure to continue their run of success under veteran coach Bob Geissinger as the league season kicks into high gear this month.
El Mo is already off to a 2-0 start, posting recent league wins over Novato (3-0) and defending league champion Marin Catholic (3-1), matches that could propel the team into early title contention.
Geissinger, a 1989 El Mo graduate and a central figure in bringing boys volleyball to Forestville more than a decade ago, is the only coach the Lions have ever had. The veteran coach has produced his share of great teams during his tenure and may have another squad capable of great things this spring.
El Molino is fielding a good mix of seasoned veterans and talented underclassmen this season, led by senior returnees; libero/DS Klint Olsen, outside hitter Jordan Kerkvliet, DS Jesse Osman, setter/outside hitter Alex Sanchez, outside hitter Levon Eral, outside hitter Arturo Ruiz and DS/libero Eduardo Rodriguez.
Other returnees are junior OH/DS James Geissinger and sophomore OPP/MH Jacob Sani.
The team should benefit from an infusion of young talent that features freshmen DS Jack Grassl, DS Arlo Connally-Stuart and middle-blocker Jack Baseman, sophomore MB/OH Mac Osman and junior MB Branden Oxsen.
Scheduling notes
The Lions will resume league action on March 28 at Redwood, before returning home to host Novato on April 4. All matches start at 5 p.m.
